Gladys struggled to earn a living selling cosmetics door-to-door so she has recently started assembling beaded products for Global Mamas.
Gladys Adimer, Bead Assembler
Bead-Making Center (Krobo)
Gladys Adimer, age 34, is the manager of the bead assembly workshop in Krobo. Gladys left school at the age of 18 to work for her mother, Grace Joe, a beadmaker who was working with Global Mamas. Her mother had become ill, so Gladys worked to help pay her mother's medical bills. In 2006, Gladys began working as Global Mamas' first bead assembler. She then worked with Global Mamas to recruit more bead assemblers in the community. After working as an assembler for 2 years, she was promoted to quality control. After 3 years in that role, she was promoted to manager of Global Mamas Krobo. Working with Global Mamas has allowed her to financially support half of her family, including her mother, grandmother, and brother, who is studying to be a mechanic. She likes the design part of her job and also packing the items for shipments to the U.S. Her dreams for the future include owning a house, continuing to work for Global Mamas, opening a hair salon, and owning a store that sells cosmetics, baby clothes and beads. She would like to create jobs for people in Krobo by opening businesses to employ them. Buying a refrigerator and a camera are her greatest achievements this past year.
