In late November 2024, Global Mamas had the honor of welcoming the German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Daniel Krull, to the Fair Trade Zone (FTZ). The visit marked a significant milestone in our journey toward sustainability and highlighted the fruitful partnership between Global Mamas and the German Embassy.
One of the key highlights of the visit was the Ambassador’s tour of our facilities, where he witnessed firsthand the impact of the solar/photovoltaic system funded by a small grant from the German Embassy. With the ongoing support of the German Engineers Without Borders (IoG), the solar system was installed by Tino Solutions in November 2023. This green energy system has drastically reduced our electricity costs, allowing us to channel savings into other critical areas of our operations.
The Ambassador expressed admiration for Global Mamas dedication to empowering women. He praised the organization for providing sustainable livelihoods for women over the years, noting that this consistency sets Global Mamas apart from companies that struggle to support their workforce in the long term.
During the visit, the Ambassador appreciated the FTZ’s eco-friendly architecture, particularly the unique sand-painted designs reflecting our commitment to innovation and sustainability. He commended our efforts to execute the solar project efficiently, ensuring the grant was used effectively to achieve its goals.
The solar system is just one component of our broader vision for an eco-friendly FTZ. Alongside initiatives like biogas systems and rainwater harvesting, the PV system represents our dedication to sustainable production. By reducing our reliance on external electricity, we are lowering production costs and reinforcing our contribution to a circular economy.
We are so thankful for this visit and continued partnership with the German Embassy.
